Typically our Fellows reside in two-bedroom apartments and share a bedroom, bathroom, and communal living space. Your housing will be assigned a few weeks prior to your move in date. The address and move-in details will be sent to your email.
The Fellow information Survey is used to match you with a roommate. You will fill out a Fellow Information Survey to help us match you with a roommate. The survey will ask you a series of questions about your living preferences, and will generate a compatability score in which similar answers are the most compatible. We use the score and your open response questions to finalize pairs.
Most of our housing options are double-occupancy, similar to a college dormitory. For example if you are assigned to a two-bedroom apartment, there will be two people in a bedroom, with a total of four people in the apartment.
AmeriCorps encourages individuals with disabilities to participate as national service members through the AmeriCorps Programs. AmeriCorps prohibits any form of discrimination against persons with disabilities in recruitment as well as in service. As a program that receives federal funds, the program complies with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
The Program shall make reasonable accommodations in policies, practices, or procedures when the accommodations are necessary to avoid discrimination on the basis of disability, unless the program can demonstrate that making the modifications would fundamentally alter the nature of the service, program, or activity, and/or impose an “undue Hardship”.
A reasonable accommodation may include: making facilities readily accessible to and usable by individuals with disabilities; job restructuring; part-time or modified schedules; acquisition or modification of equipment or devices, training materials, or policies; etc."

There will be an option in the Fellow Information Survey to opt in or out of gender inclusive housing. Gender inclusive housing allows for you to share both a room and apartment with Fellows of different gender identities and/or expressions. Opting out of gender inclusive housing would mean that you would prefer to live with Fellows of the same gender identity in both your room and apartment. Please note that gender inclusive housing is not guaranteed at all sites. Our operations and recruitment team will do their best to accommodate everyone.

If you would like to opt-out of housing you must tell GO staff by April 30. A housing stipend is available at some sites in the following locations: CT, DC, MA, NJ, NY, and VA. If you are hired after April 30 you are not able to opt out of housing, regardless of location.
